A festival with 1,000 attendees over 6 hours needs about 22 standard porta potties, from 11 units per 500 people in our planning chart. If beer is sold, add 1 unit for every 4, which makes 28. At least 5% of each cluster must be wheelchair-accessible, so a 28-unit cluster needs 2 accessible units.

What permits involve porta potties at public events?
Many New Mexico cities ask for a site plan that shows restrooms on special event applications. Artesia requires a Council-approved special events permit to install portable toilets for public use, with applications due at least 30 days ahead. Rio Rancho's application asks for every toilet and handwashing location on the site plan.
