Porta Potty Rental Questions, Answered

The questions people ask us before they book, answered in plain terms. Grouped by topic so you can jump straight to yours.

Booking and availability

How far in advance should I book a porta potty?

Book standard porta potties at least 2 business days ahead to avoid rush fees. Book restroom trailers 2 to 4 weeks ahead, and festival or July 4th orders 3 to 6 weeks ahead. Same-day delivery in Carlsbad is possible when you call by noon.

What information do you need to give me a price?

To give a price we need the delivery address or ZIP, the dates, the unit type, the number of units, and the number of guests or workers. With those five answers, the quote takes about two minutes on the phone.

Can I book now and cancel later if I find something else?

Event bookings can be cancelled for a full refund up to 24 business hours before delivery. Booking early holds the unit and the price on busy weekends.

Can you send the quote by text or email?

Quotes can be sent by text, email or both. The quote lists every line item and a link to pay when you are ready.

Are you a broker or do you own the units?

Ivan Rental Works owns its units and trucks and runs them from Carlsbad. The person who quotes you schedules your delivery.

What are your business hours?

Ivan Rental Works answers calls Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm. Quote requests sent after hours get a call back the next business morning.

Delivery, placement and pickup

When will the driver arrive?

You get a delivery window when you book. The driver calls about 30 minutes before arrival. Event units usually arrive the day before your event.

Do I need to be there for the delivery?

Nobody needs to be on site. Mark the spot with a cone or describe it at booking, and leave gates unlocked or share the code.

Where should I put the porta potty?

Choose level ground about 4 by 4 feet, within about 150 feet of where the truck can park, away from slopes and low spots. Keep the door clear of traffic and facing away from the afternoon sun.

Are there rules about where it has to go?

Units on private property can go where you choose, as long as the truck can reach for service. Units on a street, sidewalk or public park may need a City permit. Check with the City before placing a unit in the right-of-way.

What if my gate is locked on delivery day?

Share the gate code or a contact number at booking. If the driver finds the gate locked, the driver calls or texts the contact on file before leaving.

Can I move the porta potty myself?

Please do not move a unit yourself. A unit with waste in the tank is heavy and can spill. Call and the driver moves it during the next visit.

Do I have to call for pickup?

Event rentals are picked up on the scheduled date without a call. Monthly rentals keep renewing until you call for pickup.

Can it go on grass, gravel or concrete?

Units sit fine on grass, gravel, caliche, concrete and asphalt. Avoid soft sand and mud. Trailers need firmer, more level ground than single units.

Pricing and payment

What is the cheapest porta potty option?

The standard porta potty is the lowest-cost unit, starting at $175 plus tax for an event in Carlsbad city limits with delivery and pickup.

Is there a deposit, or do I pay in full?

Bookings are paid in full when you book, by card over the phone or through a texted invoice. Paying locks the unit and the price.

What payment methods do you take?

Ivan Rental Works takes major credit and debit cards. Approved contractor accounts can pay by invoice.

Is tax included in the price?

Quotes show New Mexico gross receipts tax as its own line, so the total you see is the total you pay.

Is there a fuel or environmental fee?

There are no fuel or environmental surcharges. Mileage beyond Carlsbad city limits is quoted up front as one line.

Do you price match?

Send us the other quote and we compare line by line. Many lower quotes leave out pickup, service or tax.

Units and supplies

Do the porta potties flush?

Standard units do not flush. Deluxe units have a foot-pump flush, VIP singles have a flushing toilet, and restroom trailers have porcelain flush toilets.

Does a standard porta potty have a urinal?

Every standard unit has a separate urinal beside the toilet seat, which helps lines move faster.

Do you supply toilet paper, soap and paper towels?

Every unit comes with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Soap and paper towels come with sink units, deluxe units and handwashing stations.

Do you have pictures of the units?

Every unit page on this site shows our own units. Ask and we text more photos of the exact unit type you are booking.

Do the porta potties have lights?

Standard units have a translucent roof that lights the inside by day. VIP singles and restroom trailers have interior lights. For evening events, plan path lighting near the units.

Do you have handicap accessible units?

Wheelchair-accessible units have a ground-level floor, a 36-inch door and grab bars. Public events need at least 5% accessible units in each cluster.

Cleaning and service

What happens during a service visit?

A service visit pumps the waste tank, scrubs the seat, walls and floor, refills toilet paper and sanitizer, and adds fresh deodorizer. Sink units also get fresh water, soap and towels.

Where does the waste go?

Waste is hauled only to permitted disposal facilities, as New Mexico's liquid waste rule 20.7.3 NMAC requires.

Can I get extra cleanings?

Extra service visits can be added on any weekday, starting at $55 per visit. Large events can also book an on-site attendant.

How do you keep units from smelling in the heat?

Summer odor is controlled by sizing correctly, placing doors away from afternoon sun, using fresh deodorizer at every visit, and adding service when crowds are large.

Events

Can I rent for just one day?

One-day rentals are priced as an event rental covering up to 4 days on site, so the unit can arrive the day before and leave the day after.

How many porta potties do I need for 100 people?

A 100-guest event of up to 4 hours needs 2 standard units. At 6 hours, plan 3. Add 1 more if alcohol is served.

Do you deliver for graduation and Fourth of July parties?

Graduation weekends and the Fourth of July are our busiest dates. Book 1 to 2 weeks ahead for those weekends.

Can I get pink units for a baby shower or women's event?

Pink units are in the fleet in limited numbers. Ask when booking and we reserve them if available.

Construction and long-term

Do you offer monthly porta potty rental?

Monthly rentals bill every 28 days with weekly service included. The first cycle adds a one-time delivery and pickup charge.

What does OSHA require on a jobsite?

OSHA 1926.51 requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers and 1 seat plus 1 urinal per 40 workers above 20. Handwashing is required where workers handle harmful materials.

Can I add units as the crew grows?

Units can be added on any weekday, and the new unit joins the same service day.

Do you put locks on jobsite units?

Jobsite units can be fitted with a padlock hasp so the crew can lock them after hours.

Cancellations and changes

What is your cancellation policy?

Event bookings cancelled at least 24 business hours before delivery get a full refund. Later cancellations may owe the delivery charge. Monthly rentals stop billing when you call for pickup.

Can I change my order after booking?

Dates, quantities and unit types can be changed by phone before delivery, subject to availability. Price differences are added or refunded.

Can I extend my rental?

Extensions are made by calling before the pickup date. Event rentals over 7 days move to the weekly or 28-day rate.

What if a unit is damaged or tipped over?

Call right away so we can clean and replace it. Damage from misuse, fire or vandalism is billed under the rental terms.
